// Overview
How Many Endings Does Pragmata Have?
Pragmata has three endings. Unlike games with a clean branching choice menu, Pragmata builds your outcome across the entire campaign through your Synchronization level with Diana — and one ending is gated behind post-game content. Here's a quick orientation:
Default Ending
The most common outcome. Finish Sector 06 and defeat the final boss on any Synchronization level. Diana returns to Earth; Hugh remains behind.
DETAILS →Abandonment Ending
Triggered by a very low Synchronization level with Diana — typically from speedrunning or skipping Diana interactions and escort moments.
DETAILS →True Ending
Requires completing Unknown Signal mode and equipping the Black Box Mod. Adds an extended post-credits scene implying Hugh's survival.

ℹ Note on "2 vs 3
endings"
Some guides (Wccftech, NME) describe only two endings, treating the Default and Abandonment as one.
Detailed sources including Shacknews, Game Rant, GamerGuides, and Phrasemaker confirm three distinct story outcomes. The difference in outcome between
Default and Abandonment is meaningful — see the comparison table below.
// Ending 1 of 3
Default Ending — The Standard Conclusion
The Default Ending is the outcome virtually every player reaches on their first playthrough. It requires no special conditions — simply complete the main story.
Unlock Requirements
Play through the main story in any order and on any difficulty.
Reach Sector 06: Central Port and defeat the Idea / Eight final boss.
Proceed through the set-piece sequence. Watch the credits and post-credits scene.
Rewards Unlocked After Credits
- ▸ New Game+ — carry over upgrades and equipment
- ▸ Lunatic Mode — reset upgrades but rebuild faster via Unit Printer
- ▸ Jackhammer Assault Unit — exclusive melee weapon
- ▸ Unknown Signal Mode — unlocks the path to the True Ending
▼ Story Summary (Spoilers — click to expand)
In the Default Ending, Diana successfully escapes the lunar research station and returns to Earth. Hugh chooses to remain behind on the moon to address the failing AI systems and stabilize the station. The post-credits scene is brief and emotionally weighted. It does not confirm Hugh's fate explicitly — that ambiguity is what the True Ending resolves.
// Ending 2 of 3
Abandonment Ending — Low Synchronization Route
The Abandonment Ending is triggered when your Synchronization level with Diana remains very low throughout the campaign — typically by skipping interactions, failing escort sequences, and ignoring optional Diana content. Most players will not encounter this ending unless intentionally speedrunning or neglecting the game's systems.
⚠ How to Avoid This
Ending
Engage regularly with Diana's hacking system, complete escort sequences without failure, collect
Memory Fragments, and interact with optional Diana story moments. Keeping Synchronization above the
minimum threshold ensures you land on the Default or True ending route instead.
What Triggers the Abandonment Ending
- ▸ Skipping most or all optional Diana interactions across sectors
- ▸ Failing a significant number of escort and protection moments
- ▸ Missing large numbers of Memory Fragments (REMs / Read Earth Memories)
- ▸ Keeping Diana's hacking module at minimal upgrade levels throughout
▼ Story Summary (Spoilers — click to expand)
In the Abandonment Ending, Diana ultimately succeeds in restoring Earth's atmosphere — but at the cost of Hugh's consciousness. The bond between the two characters, never fully developed due to low Synchronization, is reflected in the bleaker resolution. This is described by multiple sources as a harsher and more somber version of the story's conclusion.
// Ending 3 of 3 · Post-Game Required
True Ending — Full Unknown Signal Route
The True Ending is Pragmata's most complete story resolution. It requires finishing the main campaign first, then fully completing the Unknown Signal post-game mode — including 100% sector completion, four Enhanced Boss defeats, and all 10 Sim Pod challenges in the Hidden Chamber. The reward is the Black Box Mod, which when equipped changes the ending's post-credits scene.
True Ending — Step by Step
Complete the main story
Reach Sector 06: Central Port, defeat the final boss, and roll credits for the Default Ending. This unlocks Unknown Signal mode.
Start Unknown Signal from the main menu
Load your completed save file via the Unknown Signal option. You will return to the Shelter and gain access to the Hidden Chamber — a new area containing 10 Sim Pods.
Complete the first Sim Pod (auto-unlocked)
Pod #1 unlocks automatically after speaking to Big Cabin. You must finish it before accessing any other sector for cleanup.
Achieve 100% sector completion in all five areas
Collect all items in each sector: Safe Boxes, REMs, Pure Lunum, Escape Hatches, Mods, Cartridge Holders, and Training Data. Mini Cabins and Upgrade Components do not count toward 100% completion.
Defeat all four Enhanced Bosses
Enhanced versions of the Sector Guard, Creator, Garden Keeper, and Luna Digger appear in their original sectors. Each defeat unlocks an additional Sim Pod in the Hidden Chamber. Note: the final boss (Eight / Idea) does not have an enhanced version.
Complete all 10 Sim Pod challenges
These are unique challenges — combat, platforming, and puzzles — separate from the standard Training Simulations (Bad Blood, Floor It, etc.). All 10 must be cleared to open the Architect's vault.
Collect the Black Box Mod from the Architect's vault
The vault opens after all 10 Pods are complete. It also contains the Lim Cannon (Attack Unit weapon) and the strongest-documented cosmetic reward set, the Obsidia outfits for Hugh and Diana.
Equip the Black Box Mod and defeat the final boss again
Return to Central Port with the Black Box Mod equipped. Defeat the Idea / Eight final boss — the set-piece sequence remains identical. The ending triggers automatically.
▼ True Ending Story Details (Full Spoilers)
The True Ending plays identically to the Default Ending's main sequence. The difference appears in two places:
- During the credits, black-and-white concept art of Hugh and Diana is shown — artwork that does not appear in the Default Ending credits.
- After the beach scene (Diana arriving on Earth), a new audio cue plays: Cabin — the Shelter's AI — greets someone returning to the Shelter and says something along the lines of "Welcome back! What's this? Traveling alone today?" The implication is that Hugh survived his dead filament infection and found his way back to safety.

// Key Item
The Black Box Mod Explained
The Black Box Mod is the key item required to trigger the True Ending. It has no gameplay effect during combat — its role is purely narrative.
Item Details
- ▸ Type: Mod (equip at Shelter)
- ▸ Effect: None (narrative-only trigger)
- ▸ Description (in-game): "May suppress the spread of dead filament in organic life"
- ▸ Located: Architect's vault, Hidden Chamber (Unknown Signal)
Also in the Vault
- ▸ Lim Cannon — exclusive Attack Unit weapon
- ▸ Obsidia Outfit — for Hugh and Diana
ℹ Equip before the final
boss
Make sure the Black Box Mod is in your active Mod slot at the Shelter before heading into
the final boss fight. The game does not give you a prompt to equip it mid-fight. If you forget,
simply reload before the boss encounter.
// Warning
Points of No Return to Watch For
Pragmata has at least three story checkpoints that, once passed, can lock you into a specific ending or cut off lore content. None of these make endings permanently missable (Unknown Signal mode allows cleanup) — but they matter if you want to see everything in a single run.
Chapter 3 · Sector 4 — Deep Space Comm Relay
Activating the Deep Space Comm Relay before collecting 3 Encrypted Logs in the Residential Ruins locks the "Old Earth" lore database permanently. This is a lore/collectible lock, not an ending lock — but affects 100% completion context.
Chapter 6 · Sector 7 — Mag-Lev Transport
Boarding the Mag-Lev Transport without fully upgrading Diana's hacking module locks you out of a hidden armory code in Sector 7. This affects access to a secret content area; upgrade Diana's hacking at the Shelter beforehand.
Chapter 9 · Sector 9 — Orbital Elevator
Entering the Orbital Elevator without achieving sufficient Synchronization with Diana and collecting Memory Fragments can lock you out of the True Ending on that run. However, Unknown Signal mode gives you a clean retry path for the True Ending post-story — so this is only truly critical on a single-run attempt.
ℹ Good News for
Completionists
No ending is permanently locked out across all playthroughs. The Abandonment Ending can be triggered
intentionally. The True Ending is always available via Unknown Signal mode after finishing the
story. Some Sector 4 lore content may be the most genuinely missable element in the game.

Endings FAQ
How many endings does Pragmata have?
Pragmata has three endings: the Default Ending (most players' first-run result), the Abandonment Ending (triggered by very low Synchronization with Diana), and the True Ending (requires Unknown Signal mode and the Black Box Mod). Some sources describe only two endings, combining Default and Abandonment — but these produce meaningfully different story outcomes.
Can you get the True Ending on your first playthrough?
No. The True Ending requires Unknown Signal mode, which only unlocks after finishing the main story for the first time. It cannot be obtained during a first playthrough, regardless of collectible completion or Synchronization level.
Do Mini Cabins count toward the 100% needed for the True Ending?
No. Mini Cabin figures and Upgrade Components are excluded from the 100% sector completion tracked for Unknown Signal. You still need to collect all Safe Boxes, REMs, Pure Lunum, Escape Hatches, Mods, Cartridge Holders, and Training Data items — but Mini Cabins are purely optional (they count only toward the Platinum/full trophy list).
What exactly is different about the True Ending?
The True Ending plays identically to the Default Ending — the set-piece and final boss fight are unchanged. Two additions appear: (1) Black-and-white concept art of Hugh and Diana plays during the credits. (2) After the beach scene, Cabin's dialogue implies Hugh survived his dead filament infection and returned to the Shelter. The True Ending is less of a dramatic divergence and more of a hopeful epilogue to the Default story.
Are any endings permanently missable?
No. All three endings can be experienced across multiple playthroughs. The Abandonment Ending can be triggered intentionally at any time by maintaining low Synchronization. The True Ending is accessible via Unknown Signal mode after any completed save. Unknown Signal also functions as a cleanup mode for all collectibles needed for 100%.
What rewards come from completing Unknown Signal?
Completing all 10 Sim Pods in the Hidden Chamber unlocks the Architect's vault, which contains: the Lim Cannon (Attack Unit), the Obsidia outfits for Hugh and Diana, and the Black Box Mod required for the True Ending. See our Unknown Signal rewards guide and our Post-Game Guide for the full Sim Pod unlock conditions.
